Interested in the state of literacy in New Zealand?

A Better Start National Science Challenge’s deputy director, Professor Gail Gillon, is one of four guest speakers at a State of Literacy webinar, hosted by The Education Hub, on Monday 21 March at 7.30pm.

Over the past year, The Education Hub has conducted an extensive literature review in order to understand more fully where Aotearoa is at in terms of literacy achievement, how we got here, and what might be done to turn the situation around.

To launch a report based on this research, The Education Hub is hosting a panel discussion webinar, chaired by report co-author Dr Nina Hood. The speakers are:

  • Professor Stuart McNaughton – Chief Education Scientific Advisor and University of Auckland
  • Professor Gail Gillon (Ngāi Tahu) – A Better Start National Science Challenge deputy director and Founding Director of the University of Canterbury Child Well-being Research Institute
  • Barbara Ala’alatoa – Principal at Sylvia Park Primary School in Auckland
  • Taylor Hughson – co-author of the report
