A Better Start E Tipu e Rea National Science Challenge, Cure Kids and The Paediatric Society of New Zealand invite you to a free webinar looking at the RSV epidemic in Aotearoa on Wednesday June 29 at 12.30pm. 

A Better Start’s director, Professor Wayne Cutfield, and Cure Kids’ chair of child health research, Professor Stuart Dalziel, will be joined by three key speakers to discuss:

  • An overview of the RSV epidemic in New Zealand 
  • Our progress towards RSV vaccination
  • The long-term RSV outlook in New Zealand 

Our guest speakers for this webinar are:

  • Dr Emma Best – an expert in paediatric infectious diseases specialist at Starship Children’s Health, and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics Child and Youth Health at the University of Auckland. She also works at the national Immunisation Advisory Centre and has research and clinical interest in vaccine preventable diseases, childhood respiratory infections and antimicrobial stewardship in children.
  • Dr Adrian Trenholme – a general paediatrician at Middlemore Hospital and senior lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Auckland. His research interests include lower respiratory tract infection in infants and young children, with a focus on RSV and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. He is an investigator/author with the Novavax RSV maternal vaccine trial.
  • Dr Cass Byrnes – a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics Child and Youth Health at the University of Auckland. She also works at the national Immunisation Advisory Centre and has research and clinical interest in vaccine preventable diseases, childhood respiratory infections and antimicrobial stewardship in children.

This webinar is free and open to anyone, but will be of particular interest to health professionals. It is hosted on Zoom; Registration is essential.
